The Benefits of being alone on Xmas Day

It might feel like there’s nothing positive about spending Christmas alone and everyone will find their loneliness hitting them in different ways. Even those spending Christmas with others can still find themselves feeling lonely or struggling.

Although being forced to be alone with our thoughts can feel overwhelming, it might be an opportunity to look after yourself after an intense year, as one of the first years since Covid-19 began that felt even close to before-times. For many people summer was a busy time, and this might be the first time they’ve really had to socially recharge.

One non-negotiable: get dressed, at least from the waist up. And if you’re really bored, maybe start jotting down a few New Year’s resolutions – one less thing to think about when the likely hangover arrives on 1 January.
