This was the story that Mike stuck to – even as they went to court to work out the custody arrangement for their daughter.
“Court was a circus. He lied brazenly and they all took his word for it, even though I had written evidence that proved him wrong. The judge didn’t even look at it,” Serena continued.
But the lowest point came when the judge informed Serena that she had to co-parent with Mike – or risk losing her daughter to him permanently.
This was because the judge was worried that Serena would present their daughter with a “negative view” of Mike and alienate her from her dad.
“How can anyone think that after being the victim of 10 years of abuse, I can have a good opinion of him?” she questions.
“Of course, I don’t think he’s a good father, and with good reason! If Mike was violent to me, then he will be violent to his daughter. I want to protect her from him.
